Can Protests Happen Without Disrupting Everyday Life?
SAYONS
Imagine you’re trying to reach work, attend a class, visit a hospital or contact your family—but a protest leads to traffic restrictions or disruption to essential services.
At the same time, people may be protesting because they believe an important issue needs to be heard.
Both situations matter.
On October 12, 2026, reports said the Supreme Court directed authorities to ensure regular transport facilities and internet services amid the ongoing protests in Delhi. It also emphasised that peaceful protesters should not be detained except in accordance with the law.
This raises an important question: how can people exercise their right to protest while protecting the daily lives and rights of others?
Should authorities focus on facilitating peaceful demonstrations while keeping essential services running? Or are some disruptions unavoidable when large public protests take place?
Where should the balance be drawn?
